Archbishop Curley and Glenelg Country battled into double-overtime, Tuesday, in the MIAA B Conference lacrosse opener for both team before the visiting Friars escaped with a 9-8 win in Ellicott City.

The winning goal came after Curley’s attack caused a turnover on the ride leading to Ben Smith’s third goal of the game, with 2:44 left in the second overtime. David Bell had the assist on the game-winner.

The team played scoreless periods in the first and third quarters, but Curley forged a 4-3 lead at the half. Glenelg Country fought back from two-goal deficits twice in the second half to send the game into overtime.

Josh Knapp added two scores for the Friars, while Scott Kahl, Noah Kellner, Brandon Smith and CJ Pentz all scored once each.

Glenelg Country received hat-tricks from Nelson LeQuang and Riley Schmidt, while Cameron Martin added two goals and one assist. Mikey Welsh also scored for the Dragons and Grant Banister had an assist.

In goal, Brayden Franey had 12 saves for GCS, while Curley’s Alex Sholz stopped 10 shots.
