After surrendering a 3-1 lead in the top of the sixth inning, Archbishop Curley tied the game with a single run in the home half the sixth and then dropped No. 4 Calvert Hall with walk-off home run by Paul Nixon, in the bottom of the seventh, as the Friars captured a 5-4 MIAA A Conference baseball victory, Wednesday at Curley.
Luke Nakich put Curley on top with a 3-run home run in the fourth, but the Cardinals scored three times on a bases loaded error on a line drive to left by Ian Elliott, which cleared the bases in the sixth, giving the Cardinals a 4-3 advantage. The Cardinals first run scored on a RBI double by Brandon Dorsey in the top of the first.
The Friars got even in the bottom of the sixth when Damond Nixon drew a bases loaded walk.
Nakich was also the winning pitcher. He was on the mound for the 3 unearned runs in the sixth and then retired the Cardinals in the seventh to be in position to claim the victory.
Calvert Hall (13-8 overall) is now 10-4 in the A Conference where it remains in second place. With the victory, Curley (7-9 overall) evened its league record at 7-7. The Friars are in a virtual tie with Loyola (6-6) for fourth place.
