Friars stake a share of first place with 6-0 win over the Cardinals

Jake Michel, a University of Richmond commit, is emerging as one of the top pitchers of the 2021 high school baseball season, and he turned in another gem, Thursday, throwing a two-hit shutout at Calvert Hall, as the Friars won 6-0, in Towson.

Michel walked just two and struck out six Cardinals as he navigated his complete game effort on just 83 pitches.

His battery mate, catcher Zach Gaeta went 3-for-4 with an RBI and Tristan Schonedienst was 2-for-3 with a runs scored and a pair of RBI’s. Kobe Davis also had two hits for the Friars and Cam Munk added a double and a run scored.

Mike Wineke had a double for Calvert Hall.

Curley scored once in the top of the first and proved to be all Michel needed, but the Friars pulled away with three in fifth and two in the sixth.

With the victory, Curley (7-1 overall) improved to 4-1 in the MIAA A Conference, now sharing first place with Archbishop Spalding. Calvert Hall (4-4 overall) fell to 2-4 in league play.
