Saints marching into new league
With practice for the 2019 high school football season a few weeks away, Varsity Sports Network’s Derek Toney takes a look at the regular season itinerary for select area teams.
Concordia Prep Saints
2018 record: 9-3 (MIAA C Conference finalist)
Overview: Three years after not fielding a team and a year reaching the MIAA C Conference final, Concordia Prep will be in the MIAA B this season. Senior defensive back Deonte Ferguson, a Baltimore Touchdown Club Super 22 selection and all-MIAA C linebacker Jarren Terry will try to put the Saints into contention in the B in 2019.
Toughest 2019 opponent: McDonogh School. The Eagles from the MIAA A will look to rebound in 2019 after one of its worst seasons. The Owings Mills school will feature one of the area’s best players in wide receiver/linebacker Curtis Jacobs, who’s committed to Penn State.
Most intriguing 2019 opponent: St. Mary’s. The Saints are two-time defending MIAA B Conference champs. The Annapolis school will led by all-league performers Alex Wicks (running back), Will Berzins (line) and Dhane Blair (defensive back).
By a number: 8. Total victories for Concordia from 2012 to 2017.
