St. Mary’s Saints
2017 record: 7-4 (MIAA B Conference champion)
2017 review: The Saints won their first MIAA B championship since 2008. The Annapolis school return 30 letter winners for 2018, including Will Berzins (offensive/defensive line), Grant Hines (linebacker), Cam Brown (running back/defensive end), Charlie Smoloski (line), Tommie McKoy (wide receiver/defensive back) and Cal Hadley (defensive back).
2018 opponents’ win/loss record (from 2017): 55-47 (.539)
Toughest 2018 opponent: Landon School. The Montgomery County school claimed a share of the Interstate Athletic Conference title and finished No. 7 in the final state media poll. The Bears feature two of the state’s top recruits in Boston College commit Jalen Williams (defensive back) and all-purpose performer Jelani Machen (Harvard).
Most intriguing 2018 opponent: Boys’ Latin School. The Lakers handed St. Mary’s its worst loss (20-0) last season, and should contend for the MIAA B title. The Baltimore City private school has arguably the league’s best player in defensive back/athlete Gio Biggers, who’s committed to North Carolina.
By a number: 5. Games St. Mary’s scored 35 or more points in 2017.
