Breakdown of Dons’ 2017 schedule
With practice for 2017 high school football season underway, Varsity Sports Network’s Derek Toney takes a look at the regular season itinerary for select area teams.
Loyola Blakefield Dons
2016 record: 5-6
2016 review: The Dons finished last in the MIAA A Conference after a 4-0 non-league start. Anthony Zehyoue has the 2017 coaching reigns following Brant Hall, and brings back one of the league’s top senior in defensive tackle Evan Boozer, who’s committed to Temple University.
2017 opponents’ win/loss record (from 2016): 59-48 (.551)
Toughest 2017 opponent: St. Frances Academy. The Panthers had an amazing turnaround last fall, going from last place in 2015 to the MIAA A crown and area’s top-ranking. The east Baltimore school, led by four-star defensive end Eyabi Anoma, will be the team to beat in the MIAA A in 2017.
Most intriguing 2017 opponent: Calvert Hall College. The Dons will again play their longtime Towson rivals in the Turkey Bowl at M&T Bank Stadium on Thanksgiving morning. The Cardinals will be led by all-league performers, linebacker Chance Campbell (committed to Maryland) and offensive linemen Reginald Sutton (Rutgers commit).
By a number: 127. Point differential in Loyola’s six MIAA A losses last season.
