William Miller scored 18 points and University of Tennessee-Chattanooga recruit Terry Nolan added 12 as 12th-ranked Mount Carmel High posted a 59-56 victory over No. 11 Boys’ Latin School in a battle of MIAA A Conference basketball playoff hopefuls in Baltimore City Monday afternoon.

Jordan Jones finished with 10 points for Mount Carmel (15-6 overall), which saw a 12-point first quarter advantage turned into a 33-31 deficit by halftime. The Old Eastern Avenue school recovered in the third, outscoring the Lakers, 15-8, to grab a 46-41 lead.

Miller got Mount Carmel off to a fast start, scoring 13 points, helping the visitors to a 22-10 advantage. Behind five 3-pointers, Boys’ Latin (15-7) reversed the script in the second quarter, outscoring the Cougars, 23-10, for the lead.

Junior Jaylin Andrews finished wth 14 points for BL, and Kenny Lewis contributed 11. The Lakers, who had their four-game winning streak snapped, fell to 6-5 in MIAA A play, but maintain third-place in the Black division.

The Cougars improved to 6-4 in the Red division, good for second place. Mount Carmel plays at No. 7 and Black division second place John Carroll School Wednesday evening in Bel Air.
