After losing second half leads in a pair of basketball games earlier this week, No. 5 Calvert Hall got to the finish line with a victory Friday night, pulling away from visiting Archbishop Spalding for a 56-48 MIAA A Conference/Baltimore Catholic League victory at home in Towson.
In a tight first half, Spalding led by one after one and Calvert Hall pushed in front, 45-44, at the half. The Cardinals gradually created separation from there.
Calvert Hall, which continues to start two freshman as they wade through some early season injuries, was paced by 19 points, which included five three-pointers, from Josh Cornish.
Brendan Adams and Logan Curtis combined for 23 points for the Cardinals.
Calvert Hall also did a nice defensive job containing Spalding leading scorer Buzz Anthony. Anthony, who has been scoring well over 20 points per game, led the Cavaliers with 17.
Calvert Hall improved to 2-4 overall. They are now 1-2 in the MIAA A Conference and 1-1 in the BCL. Spalding is now 2-3 overall, 1-2 in the MIAA and 0-2 in the BCL.
