Senior Nico Clareth poured in 15 points in the first quarter and he finished the night with 26 numbers to lead No. 1 Calvert Hall to an easy, 80-42, win over Archbishop Spalding in an opening round game of the 2015 Baltimore Catholic League Tournament, Thursday evening at Mount St. Joseph.

Clareth hit four trey’s from behind the arc and he had an old fashioned three-point play to start the scoring for the Hall (27-6). He finished with six three-pointers in just two-and-a-half quarters of play.

The Sienna bound senior said it was team chemistry that led to the huge effort by the Hall, which won the MIAA A Conference championship game over Mount Carmel on Sunday.

“We play together, and the goal is to make buckets.”

Eleven different players scored for the Cardinals. Evan Phoenix had 13 points, and Drew Edwards added nine. Coach John Bauersfeld emptied his bench with a little over three minutes to go in the third quarter, with the Hall leading 54-25.

Spalding (4-26) was led by Justin Kane, who scored 15 points, and Buzz Anthony, who added 11.

Calvert Hall will play in the tourney semifinals on Sunday afternoon against the winner of the Mt. Carmel-St. Joe first round game, which will be played at Calvert Hall on Friday at 5:00 p.m.  Sunday’s BCL semifinals and Monday’s championship game will be played at Towson University’s SECU Arena.
