Senior guard Nico Clareth had 21 points and six assists in his return and junior forward Justin Gorham provided a double-double as No. 3 Calvert Hall College defeated Loyola Blakefield, 63-43, in a MIAA A Conference/Baltimore Catholic League contest in Towson Monday evening.
Clareth, who sat the previous five games after landing on his head during the semifinals of the Rotary Roundball Classic in South Carolina during the holiday break, led three double-digits scorers. Central Connecticut State University-bound Evan Phoenix had 14 points and seven rebounds and Gorham finished with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
The Hall (16-4 overall), which didn’t have the services of seniors Drew Edwards and Reggie Rouse led 31-23 at halftime Monday against the Dons. Ryan Floyd led Loyola with 11 points.
The Cardinals shot 53-percent (25-of-47) from the field.
The victory keeps Calvert Hall tied with Mount Carmel, Mount St. Joseph and St. Frances Academy for second-place (7-3) in MIAA A play. The Cardinals have sole possession of second in the BCL (6-2) behind No. 1 John Carroll School (9-0 in BCL; first in MIAA at 9-1).
The Cardinals host McDonogh School Friday evening in a MIAA A match. Loyola (3-15, 0-11 MIAA A, 0-10 BCL) hosts Glenelg Country School Wednesday in MIAA A action.
