McDonogh senior point guard Damian Chong-Qui scored 23 points, Monday, including the 1,000th of his high school career in leading McDonogh School to an each 74-47 MIAA non-league basketball victory over visiting St. Mary’s, in Owings Mills.
McDonogh took control in the opening quarter, outscoring the Saints 19-7 and gradually stretched the lead from that point. The Eagles, which defeated Gerstell Academy on Saturday are now 2-0.
Chong-Qui converted 10 field goals, including a pair of three pointers, and 1-for-2 from the line to surpass the milestone. Noah Locke added 17 points for the Eagles and Jaedon Willis scored 14.
St. Mary’s, playing in its season opener, was led by 13 points from Josh Wallace and 11 from Ryan Garnder, who drained a trio of three-pointers.
