Spalding lands in Top 3; Loyola falls out

After an impressive showing last weekend, Archbishop Spalding High is up to No. 3 in the latest Maryland State Media Football Top 25 poll.

The Cavaliers, who defeated Broadneck, 44-13, in a non-league match of Anne Arundel County powers, gained one first-place vote. Nationally-ranked St. Frances Academy (24th by MaxPreps) remained in the top spot.

Mount St. Joseph (No. 8), Calvert Hall College (9th), Franklin (No. 10) and St. Vincent Pallotti (11th) held their position from the preseason poll. Milford Mill Academy fell from No. 16 to 18th after losing at Franklin.

St. Mary’s, which knocked off Loyola Blakefield (then-No. 21), received six votes. Concordia Prep (four) and Loyola (two) also received votes.
