The Hall storms back in District

No. 3 Calvert Hall tops St. Mary’s Ryken, moves to 3-0

After trips to Pittsburgh and Laurel, Calvert Hall College’s football team was back on the road Friday, this time in the District for a non-league match with St. Mary’s Ryken at Georgetown University.

After falliing behind two scores in the opening quarter, the No. 3 Cardinals dominated the final three periods to claim a 34-14 victory.

Syracuse University commit Sean Tucker and Cobie Floyd each had a rushing score for the Cardinals (3-0 overall), and senior Cole Herbert caught a 29-yard pass from junior Amir Jenkins. Pete Moore connected on two field goals.

St. Mary’s Ryken, which won the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference Metro Division title last season, built a 14-0 advantage in the first quarter.

The second quarter, however, belonged to Calvert Hall. Jenkins connected with Herbert with 10 minutes, 46 seconds left in the period. Villanova University commit Ty Trinh returned a punt 45 yards for a touchdown, pulling the Cards even at 14.

The Towson school gained its first lead as Tucker broke free for a 73-yard touchdown run with 2:50 left before halftime. The Cardinals got an interception from Delaware State commit Kahlil Glover and Moore converted a 31-yard field goal with a second left, extending Calvert Hall’s lead to 10.

The Cardinals upped their advantage as Moore split the uprights, this time from 37 yards, early in the fourth quarter. Floyd completed Calvert Hall’s scoring on the night with a 1-yard run with 4:43 left in regulation.

The Cardinals play their first home game at Russo Stadium against Riverdale Baptist School Friday evening.
