Calvert Hall rallied for four runs in the top of the seventh inning to turn a 6-5 deficit at John Carroll into a 9-6 lead and the Cardinals then held on as the host Patriots rallied for two in the home half of the seventh, before falling 9-8, in a critical MIAA A Conference baseball contest, Wednesday.
Troy Stokes had two hits in three trips, including a home run, scoring a run and driving in three to power the Cardinals. He also stole three bases.
John Carroll, which has been coming on of late, received three RBI from Matt McGee, while Mark Michael scored three times. In addition, Nick Flayhart had one hit and walked four times to drive in two runs.
Calvert Hall (15-3 overall) improved to 8-2 in the A Conference and is now tied for first place with Archbishop Curley. St. Paul’s, which was also tied with the leaders in the loss column, lost a slugfest with Loyola on Wednesday, 8-7, and now is tied for third with Archbishop Spalding. Both of those clubs are 7-3 in the league.
John Carroll (4-8 overall) is now 2-8 in the conference and two games off the playoff pace with six games to go.
