Calvert Hall and Georgetown Prep christened the 2016 high school baseball season, Saturday, on the turf at Calvert Hall and each team came away with a victory.

Calvert Hall won the opener, 7-6, as Brandon Dorsey drove in the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning with a double, plating Nate Bosse who reached scoring position with a two-out double.

Calvert Hall scored twice in the first inning to grab a 2-1 lead. The game was tied 2-2 entering the fourth when both teams scored three times and they both added single runs in the fifth.

Ian Elliott was 2-for-4 with 2 RBI and a run scored for Calvert Hall. Bosse was also 2-for-4 with a RBI and 2 runs scored. In addition, JP Murphy and Garrett Matheny each went 2-for-3.

Matt Hantschel got the win on the mound with three innings of 1-hit relief.

Georgetown Prep scored three times in the top of the seventh to grab the nightcap, 3-1.

Dorsey drove in the Cardinals only run in the first inning. Ben Sedgwick drove in the first run for Georgetown Prep with a double and Michael Depman capped the rally with a 2-run pinch-hit single. Depman was also the winning pitcher, tossing the final two innings, allowing just one hit while striking out two.
