No. 3 Calvert Hall picked up its eighth win of the season, Friday, as the Cardinals downed visiting Glenelg Country, 72-59, in MIAA A Conference basketball action in Towson.

Four Cardinals scored in double figures, with senior Evan Phoenix scoring 21 to lead the way.  Fast-rising junior  Justin Gorham added 17, while Drew Edwards scored 16 points and Nico Clareth finished with 14.

Calvert Hall (8-2 overall, 4-1 MIAA A) took command with an 18-9 first quarter run and led 36-26 at the half. That lead grew to 17 points after three quarters.

Darryl Williams scored 19 points to lead the Dragons (4-5, 1-5 MIAA A) and Joshua Hightower scored 12 points.

The Dragons will compete at the Wells Fargo WNC Holiday in North Carolina, Dec. 29-31. Calvert Hall hosts Loyola Blakefield in a MIAA A/Baltimore Catholic League tilt Sunday afternoon.

Prior to the game, Calvert Hall will name the basketball court in Memorial Gymnasium after former coach Mark Amatucci. Amatucci, a member of the BCL Hall of Fame, won 389 games at his alma-mater including three BCL titles, two MIAA A championships and a mythical national title in 1982.
