Coming off one of the biggest lacrosse wins in program history, a 13-10 victory over Gilman on Friday, No. 10 Mount St. Joseph traveled to No. 6 Calvert Hall, Tuesday, looking to climb another rung in the MIAA A Conference hierarchy. The Gaels, however, were turned away at the pass, as the host Cardinals powered their way to a 16-7 rout as they celebrated Senior Day.

Calvert Hall’s most prolific senior is attackman Timmy Kelly and he shined on Tuesday, leading the Cardinals with four goals and two assists as his team was control from the outset.

Jason Brown, also a senior, had three goals and an assist, while freshman Jacob Kelly supported the cause with two goals and two assists.

Several other Cardinals enjoyed big afternoons, including sophomore JT Bugliosi, who had two goals and two assists. Also scoring for Calvert Hall (10-3, 3-2) were Luke Ciccarone, Ryan Powers, Austin Glab, Omari DeBerry and Jack Kinnear.

Bryan Costabile paced St. Joe with a hat-trick and Johnn Norton scored twice for the Gaels (8-6, 6-3). Timmy Snyder and Nick Willentz also scored goals and Shawn Carter had a pair of assists.

Calvert Hall is now in a four-way tie for third place in the conference with St. Paul’s, Boys’ Latin and St. Mary’s. The Cardinals already own wins over the Lakers and Saints, but have lost to the Crusaders.

St. Joe is a game back of that group, in seventh place, and will need some more big wins if it hopes to crack the six-team playoff field.
