In 2016, the Calvert Hall College lacrosse team displayed as much talent as anyone in the MIAA A Conference, if not the nation. The Cardinals, however, were just a little too young and a little too undersized to go distance in America’s toughest high school league.

In 2017, however, the Cards are a year older, more physically mature and perhaps even more talented.

Head coach Bryan Kelly, now the dean of MIAA coaches in his 22nd year, spoke with quiet confidence.

“I like my team a lot,” said Kelly.  “The kids have been working very hard.  We have a talented group of kids, especially on the offensive end of the field.”

Indeed the Cardinal offense should be formidable.

Junior Jacob Kelly netted 76 points as sophomore and with 36 goals and 40 assists, he is just as likely to setup someone else’s goal as he is to net his own. Kelly, the latest in a line of Kelly cousins who have starred for the Cardinals, was a 2nd-team All-Metro selection last spring and an All-MIAA selection. He is committed to the University of North Carolina.

JT Bugliosi returns for his senior year after scoring 48 goals a year ago. The Ohio State commit added 10 assists in a season which netted All-MIAA and All-Metro honors.

Syracuse bound senior Brendan Curry is back at midfield after scoring 16 goals and adding 11 assist, as is senior midfielder Omari DeBerry (Ohio State), who scored 15 goals and dished out eight assists.

The junior class is well represented in the stat sheet as well, as Zach Green (Maryland commit) returns after scoring 22 goals and adding eight assists as a sophomore. In addition, junior defenders Jack Connelly (Towson), George Walsh (Ohio State) and Dan DiPeso (Roanoke) combined for 95 ground balls in 2016.
