Nico Clareth’s putback with 3.4 seconds remaining in regulation lifted second-ranked Calvert Hall College to a 59-58 victory over St. Maria Goretti in a Baltimore Catholic League basketball match in Hagerstown Friday evening.

The victory secures a tie of the BCL regular season crown for The Hall (24-5 overall), which finished 11-3 along with fourth-ranked John Carroll School. The Cardinals defeated the Patriots on Senior Night Wednesday evening for a season split.

A coin clip will take place Sunday evening to decide the No. 1 seed for the upcoming BCL Tournament. Last year, the Cardinals were the top-seed (won coin flip over Mount St. Joseph), but lost to the defending champ Gaels in the first overtime match in BCL Tournament finals history.

The Towson school is ready for postseason play, winning its seventh straight decision Friday. Clareth, who announced Wednesday he will sign with Siena University, got the rebound off a Drew Edwards’ missed three-pointer and scored the winning basket. Goretti wasn’t able to inbounds the ball before time expired.

Junior forward Justin Gorham led the Cardinals with 23 points and pulled down seven rebounds, and Edwards added 15 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Clareth finished with seven points and a team-best five assists.

Donte Doleman led Goretti (18-8) with 16 points and Eliah Clarance added 15. The Gaels are tied with St. Frances Academy (both 7-6) for fourth-place going into Sunday’s final day of BCL regular season action.

Goretti hosts Loyola Blakefield (1-12) and St. Frances welcomes Archbishop Spalding (1-12).
