Williams scores 20 after slow start; John Carroll routs Goretti
Calvert Hall College sophomore Mike Williams, an emerging basketball star in the MIAA A Conference and Baltimore Catholic League, got off to a slow start on Sunday when his Cardinals hosted Glenelg Country in MIAA action, but once Williams got going Calvert Hall never looked back.
After bringing held scoreless in the opening quarter, and his team trailing 19-17, Williams scored a game-high 20 points over the next three periods to lead the Cardinals to a 78-47 rout of the Dragons. With the win, Calvert Hall improved to 4-2 overall and 4-1 in the A Conference where they currently sit in third place.
Calvert Hall outscored GCS (1-4, 1-4 MIAA A) 18-7 in the second quarter to move in front by nine and blitzed the Dragons, 25-11, in the final quarter to win going away.
Saramartine Bogues-Christian scored 13 for the Cardinals, while Sheldon Spellman added 11 and Antonio Foxwell scored 10.
Glenelg Country’s Garvin Sween scored 10 points in the first quarter to help the Dragons to the early lead and finished with a team-high 18 points. Franklin Ayissi Etoh added 11 points for Glenelg .
JOHN CARROLL SCHOOL 71, ST. MARIA GORETTI 66
John Carroll snapped a three-game losing streak, Sunday afternoon at home, as the Patriots got past visiting St. Maria Goretti, 71-66, in Baltimore Catholic League basketball action.
Jalen Bryant continued his breakout sophomore campaign with a game-high 23 points as JC (2-4, 1-3 BCL) won in the BCL for the first time this year. Tyson Commander added 13 points and Jeannot Basima finished with 11 points.
Goretti (1-3 BCL) was paced by 18 points from Jordan Nkoa-Abessolo and 13 from Michael Henderson.
