Playing a non-conference game as it prepares for the Turkey Bowl with rival Loyola on Thanksgiving morning, Calvert Hall built some momentum, Saturday, with a 26-6 him win over Avalon.

The Cardinals (4-6) got on the board early, as TJ Massey capped a quick drive, following a recovery on the opening kickoff, with a 9-yard touchdown run and the Cardinals lead 7-0, less than two minutes in to the contest. The lead then grew to 10-0, with three minutes to play in the opening quarter, when Peter Ferrara drilled a 40-yard field goal.

Early in the second, BJ Watson scored on a 4-yard run and Ferrara followed with his second field goal of the game, this time from 33-yards, giving Calvert Hall a 19-0 lead with 3:21 to play in the first half. Ferrara’s kick was setup by a Morgan Scroggins’ interception.

Calvert Hall’s kick coverage team came up with another recovery and the Cardinals’ capitalized with another touchdown, as Ben Oliver scored from 1-yard out, to grow the team’s lead to 26-0 at the half.

Avalon broke the shutout in the second half, but the Cardinals will head into their Thanksgiving Day matchup with arch-rival Loyola on a high note.
