With precious time left in the MIAA A Conference/Baltimore Catholic League basketball regular season, No. 2 fCalvert Hall had no time to reflect on Wendesday’s overtime setback at John Carroll.  Instead, the Cardinals returned immediately to the court, Thursday, hosting and defeating St. Maria Goretti, 67-56 in BCL action.

Unlike Thursday, where it struggled offensively in the early going, Calvert Hall (24-4, 9-3) got off to a fast start against the Gaels, scoring 22 first quarter points and building a 10-point advantage.  It proved the working margin Calvert Hall needed and it stayed in that range most of the night.

Four Cardinals once again reached double figures with Evan Phoenix and Reggie Rouse scoring 12 each to each to lead the team.  Nico Clareth netted 11 and Chris Wallace finished with 10.  In addition, Drew Edwards finished with nine points.

Clareth, Wallace and Edwards all had five rebounds, while Edwards added three assists and four steals to the cause.

Calvert Hall has two regular season games remaining, as it hosts Loyola on Friday and St. Frances on Sunday.  The Cardinals need to win both to tie St. Joe (11-3) for first place in the BCL.  The Gaels have only MIAA contests remaining.  In addition, St. Frances (9-4) will be attempting to unseat the Cardinals for the second seed in the BCL tournament.

All three teams are also battling for the top two spots in the MIAA A Conference, where St. Joe is 13-3, while Calvert Hall and St. Frances are each 12-4.

Goretti is now 17-14 overall and 5-9 in the BCL.
