In a battle with St. Paul’s and Loyola, it’s final two regular season opponents, No. 3 Calvert Hall traveled to Annapolis on Tuesday and survived an upset bid from host St. Mary’s as the Cardinals held on for a 7-6 MIAA A Conference lacrosse victory.
Calvert Hall (13-3, 5-2) led 3-2 after the opening quarter and could not get up by more than two scores on the pesky Saints (1-13, 0-7) who were looking for their first league win of the season after taking the title last spring.
Leading 7-5 after three quarters, the Cardinals did not score in the fourth while the Saints moved back within one, but could not get the equalizer.
Ethan Mintzer scored 4 times to lead Calvert Hall, while Jack Kinnear, JT Bugliosi and Brendan Curry scored once each. Jacob Kelly had 3 assists.
Jack Caraway led the Saints with 3 goals and an assists.
Calvert Hall which battles St. Paul’s on Friday before closing the regular season with Loyola, next Tuesday, is tied for third place with the Crusaders, while the Dons sit one game back.
