Patriots win third straight behind senior’s 29


Jalen Bryant scored 29 points Wednesday evening as John Carroll defeated McDonogh in MIAA A basketball action.

Jalen Bryant scored 29 points, dropping seven 3-pointers along the way, leading John Carroll School to a 55-49 victory over McDonogh School in a MIAA A Conference basketball contest Wednesday evening in Bel Air.

Bryant, a senior guard, accounted for 11 points in a 14-2 second quarter, pacing the Patriots (5-5 overall) to a 27-18 halftime advantage. John Carroll upped its advantage to 49-28 behind four Bryant daggers, but McDonogh rallied in the fourth.

The Eagles outscored John Carroll, 21-5, in the fourth as Siena University-bound forward Jared Billups finished with 25 points for McDonogh (2-8). Junior post Cesar Tchlimbo added 10 points for John Carroll.

The Patriots head to Towson for a Baltimore Catholic League contest with Calvert Hall College Friday evening. McDonogh, which dropped its fourth straight, concludes its truncated season Friday at home against Gilman School.
