Boys’ Latin squandered an 11 point fourth quarter lead, Wednesday night in Annapolis, but regrouped to outscore host St. Mary’s 12-6 in overtime to pull out an 81-75 MIAA B Conference basketball victory.
The Lakers (7-1 overall) remained unbeaten in the league where they are 4-0 and tied for first place with St. Vincent Pallotti. After taking a 24-22 lead at the end of a high-scoring first quarter, BL stretched its advantage to seven at the half and to 54-43 at the end of three quarters, before St. Mary’s (3-4, 1-3) outscored the Lakers 26-15 in the final period to gain overtime.
One of the major factors in Boys’ Latin’s favor was the fact that it went to the free throw line 52 times in the contest, picking up 30 points. St. Mary’s shot a much higher percentage from the charity stripe, but the Saints 18-of-24 effort still left them 12 points shy of the Lakers in that department.
Colin Heacock led the Lakers with 23 points, while Casey Rees scored 17 and Brlair and Jordan Brooks combined for 28.
St. Mary’s Stan Brudish led all scorers with 24 points, while teammate Mason Frymark finished with 12 points.
