Bailey produces the Gold Goal to lift the Lakers

As a home underdog on the opening day of the 2021 MIAA A Conference soccer season, Boys’ Latin survived some sustained pressure from Loyola Blakefield without allowing a goal before breaking through for the only score of the contest, in overtime, to pull out a 1-0 over the Dons.

Wade Bailey was the hero for the Lakers, netting a Golden Goal, with 4:08 to play in the first overtime. He was unassisted.

Loyola had 13 shots in regulation but not one of them found the back of the net, while the Lakers’ only shot of the game was Bailey’s game-winner. However, as the game wore on and moved into the later stages of the second half, and then overtime, BL began to sustain more possession as it built towards the decisive opportunity.

Junior goalkeeper Owen Allen Worrell was also strong for the Lakers, stopping six shots to help keep a clean sheet.
