In the early going, Boys’ Latin must have felt as if it was chasing a rabbit, during it boys basketball game at Digital Harbor, Monday.

The host Rams raced out to an 11-0 lead, only to see the Lakers score 10 straight to pull within one.  No sooner had BL gotten back into the game than Digital Harbor rolled off another 11 consecutive points to go up, 22-10.  From there, the Lakers took a more deliberate rout to chipping away at their deficit and ultimately prevailed, 50-47.

In the later stages of the first half, BL chipped away at the Ram lead and went into the locker room down by seven points, at 28-21.  But, the third quarter, BL played the role of rabbit, outscoring Digital Harbor 22-2 in the period to go into the final quarter up 43-30.  The lead quickly grew to 15, as the fourth got underway, but now it was Digital Harbor’s turn to storm back.  The Rams did so by forcing a flurry of turnovers by the Lakers and eventually they cut the BL lead to one at 48-47, which just 11 seconds remaining in the game.

Boys’ Latin missed the front end of a 1-and-1 and Digital Harbor pushed the ball up court with the chance to go in front.  However, the Rams missed a contested shot and the rebound eventually went out of bounds off of Digital Harbor.  BL secured the game with just 1.8 seconds left on the clock with two clutch free throws by Junior Devin Shewell.

Shewell came up huge for the Lakers in the game, coming in off the bench to provide some much needed stability.  He finished with 12 points and three assists.  Junior Blair Brooks led all scorers with 15 points, while going 4-for-4 from the three point line.

Digital Harbor was led by Corey Mendez with 14 points.
