Boys’ Latin opened its 2013 football season on the road, Saturday afternoon, sd they faced Landon School, and the Lakers prevailed in a defensive struggle, 10-0.

Stephon Hill, Jr. scored on a 20-yard fumble return and Dom Maggio kicked the extra point to begin the scoring, in the opening quarter.  Maggio added a 30-yard field goal in the second quarter and that would be all the points needed.
Defensively, junior linebacker Preston Waters led the Boys’ Latin with 11 tackles and two sacks. Michael Whitehurst, a senior linebacker, also had a stellar day with seven tackles, one sack and two tackles for a loss.  He also carried the ball 10 times for 55 hard earned yards on offense.

In addition, junior Gavin Howell five tackles and one sack, while junior Billy Wingo added four tackles and Devin Shewell had three tackles and three sacks to lead the defensive line. Nick Gesauldi, Pat McManus, Tal Bruno, Hill and Anthony Wyler led the secondary and kept the Landon passing attack in check all afternoon.
Fullback Jake Merril made some key blocks and caught two passes for 31 yards.  Senior quarterback Fred Bopst connected with Gesualdi on two key passes in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
