In the same week in which MIAA B Conference power St. Vincent Pallotti claimed a pair of victories over A Conference teams, Boys’ Latin traveled to Owings Mills Friday evening and captured one of its own, as the Lakers upset host McDonogh, 64-63, to improve to 3-0 on the season.
In a game which was close throughout, Boys’ Latin outscored the Eagles 15-8 in the second quarter to build a six point halftime lead and the Lakers were able to stay in front all the way through the final buzzer.
Seniors Colin Heacock and Casey Rees led the Lakers by scoring 20 and 19 points, respectively. Sophomore Blair Brooks also had an excellent game, chipping in with 15 points. McDonogh was paced by the three-point shooting of senior BJ Andrews, who finished the game with 18 points, and outstanding play of senior point guard Taysean Scott, who scored 20 points to match Heacock for game-high honors.
Boys’ Latin opened its season with a pair of wins over C Conference opponents and this was its first over an A Conference opponent in several years. The Lakers were only 14-of-26 from the free throw line during the contest, but they were able to convert some clutch attempts in the final minutes to protect their lead.
