Corey Gains sparked a Boys’ Latin comeback with a solo home run in the fifth inning and the Lakers scored four times in the sixth as they rallied to beat St. Mary’s, 6-5, Friday evening in a MIAA B Conference baseball elimination game at Joe Cannon Stadium.
The victory propels Boys’ Latin in the tournament finals and the Lakers will meet Glenelg Country at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, at Ripken Stadium. GCS needs just one victory to capture the double-elimination tournament, while BL must win twice.
Starting pitcher Skyler Morris plated an important insurance run for the Lakers with a seventh inning single and Devin Doudos added two hits for BL.
Freshman Dom Maggio got the win in relief and Fred Bopst earned a save by striking out three consecutive Saints with the tying run standing on second base.
Kenny Armiger had a single and a double, and drove in two runs, to lead St. Mary’s.
