Avenging an earlier home loss, No. 19 Boys’ Latin traveled to No. 17 Severn, on Wednesday, and topped the host Admirals, 3-2, in a battle of MIAA B Conference leaders.

Severn (12-2-2, 10-2-0) came up short for a second straight attempt to clinch the top playoff seed in the conference and now lead the Lakers (10-5-1, 9-3-2) by just two points.

BL, which is 7-0-1 since a 1-0 loss to Severn on Sept. 28, scored twice in the first half, on a penalty kick by Brian Becker, at the five minute mark, and an unassisted score by Shack Stanwick, with just one minute to play in the opening half.

Daniel Baker finished what proved to be the game-winning goal for the Lakers, when he re-directed a corner kick, in the second half.  In addition, Parker Yablon came up big in goal, with nine saves.

John Garske, assisted by Matt Rosborg, and Andre Levigne, assisted by Jon Dickerson, scored the goals for Severn.

With the win Boys’ Latin inches closer to clinching second place.  BL, which has one regular season game remaining, next Wednesday at Saints Peter & Paul, has a four-point lead on Gerstell Academy, which still has two games remaining.  A Laker win and a pair of Severn losses would vault the Lakers to the top seed.  A loss and two wins by Gerstell, which blanked St. Mary’s, 2-0, on Wednesday, would allow the Falcons to jump into the second spot.

Severn closes its regular season with a home game against Park, on Friday, and a road game at Gerstell Academy, next Wednesday.

Ben Higgins and Nick Wilson each scored to lead Gerstell (13-4-0, 8-4-0).  Higgins scored in the third minute, when his shot from inside the 18, deflected off a St. Mary’s defender and into the goal.  Wilson, assisted by Luke Gardner, scored in the 18th minute.
