Ace Tyler Blohm struck out 10 batters and allowed just 3 hits in going the distance for a 4-2 MIAA A Conference baseball victory for Archbishop Spalding, Tuesday, at John Carroll. The win clinched the top-seed for the upcoming league playoffs for the two-time defending champs.
Spalding catcher Carter Sears, who was 2-for-2, got the Cavaliers on the board with a RBI sac fly in the top of the fourth and Evan Fochtman added another sac fly, late in the inning, as the Cavaliers (23-3, 14-2) went on top 2-0.
The Cavs got their third run on a RBI double by Fletcher Pack in the sixth, but John Carroll rallied for two runs in the home half of the sixth, as Nick Turnbull roped a 2-run single, scoring Alex Rasmussen and Ryan Archibald.
That would be all the damage the Patriots could manage against Blohm, while Spalding added an insurance run in the seventh on a sac fly by Barrett Smith.
John Carroll (9-12, 5-11) is now mathematically alive for the post-season, but the Patriots must win their final two league games (Archbishop Curley and Loyola) and get a lot of help.
