Smith scores five second half goals to rally the Lakers

No. 5 Boys’ Latin had all it could handle from No. 16 for the better part of three quarters, Tuesday afternoon in Roland Park, but the Lakers eventually found another gear, thanks to Ben Smith, and pulled away for a 13-7 MIAA A Conference lacrosse victory.

Ryan Evans scored an early goal to give BL a 1-0 lead, but Severn raced in front 3-1 and later led 5-3 before settling for a 5-4 halftime advantage. That scored until the game clock neared three minutes to play in the third quarter when the Lakers puled even with a goal by Cam Spencer.

From that point forward, Smith took over, scoring all give of his goals in the final 15 minutes of the contest. He scored back-to-back goals to give the Lakers a 7-5 advantage, their first lead since lead since 1-0.

Freshman Dominic Pietramala followed with his third score of the game, just as the third quarter ended, and BL led 8-5. The Lakers scored four more times in the fourth quarter, including two more by Smith to win going away.

Jon Jarosz scored three times to lead Severn and Zack Kinsellas had a pair of scores for the Admirals.

The Lakers (8-5 overall) are now 4-2 in the A Conference, tied for fourth place with Gilman, which knocked off Loyola (4-3), 14-13, in overtime on Tuesday.

Severn (3-11) overall is out of the post-season chase at 1-6 in the league.
