Boys’ Latin got contributions from every starter in the lineup and downed St. Vincent Pallotti, 11-1, in an MIAA B Conference baseball playoff game, Tuesday on Lake Avenue.
The victory advances the top-seeded Lakers into Thursday’s winner’s bracket final in which they will host Glenelg County 4-3 winner over Severn, in Tuesday’s other winner’s bracket game.
BL led 3-1 in the bottom of the second inning with two outs when Pallotti’s Alex Cordon doubled off Boys’ Latin started, Zach Grace. The relay from Ben Barton to Matt Luterman gunned down the Panthers’ runner at the plate to end the inning. That was as close as the Panthers got, as the BL offense kicked into high gear. In the third inning, BL took control of the game, highlighted by Justus Brown’s two-run home run. Mark Lopez also homered in the game and went 3-for-3.
Alex Cordon went 2-for-3 (23 doubles) for Pallotti, which now falls to the losers’ bracket.
In Ellicott City, the Glenelg Country/Severn game featured the same pitching match-up, Tyler Russo for GCS and Ryan Jack for Severn.
Both pitched well with Russo earning the complete game win, giving up just three runs (two earned) on four hits and three walks while striking out six.
Severn went on top with a run in the top of the third inning, but Glenelg Country answered with two in the bottom of the third with Brendan Grady picking up an RBI on a ground ball to the right side and Russo with an RBI single.
Severn evened it up in the top of the fourth, but the Dragons went ahead again with a RBI double by Jack Adamson. Severn fought to tie it again in the top of the fifth, but GCS took the lead for good with Cole Sterry earning the game winning RBI on a single in the bottom of the fifth. Russo finished out the game with two hitless innings to secure the victory.
In the tournament’s first elimination game, Annapolis Area Christian defeated Mount Carmel, 7-3, to end the Cougars’ season. AACS will now travel to Panther Park on Wednesday to face Pallotti in an elimination game. The winner of that contest will play Severn at Kinder Farm Park on Thursday.
The tournament will continue throughout the week, advancing to Sunday’s championship finals at Harford Community College.
