Severna Park won its second straight Class 4A/3A state championship, the first back-to-back in 4A/3A since the Falcons in 2007 and 2006. The Anne Arundel County school was the lone undefeated squad (20-0) in the area.
With an experienced roster back this spring, Earl challenged the Falcons not to be complacent.

The Falcons repeated as Anne Arundel County champions, defeating eventual Class 2A/1A state champ Southern in league play. The Robinson Road school defeated eight teams that were ranked in VSN’s Top 20 during the season including 3A/2A state finalist Glenelg, 3A/2A state semifinalist and Baltimore County co-champ Hereford and neighborhood private rival Severn School, which reached the MIAA A Conference semifinals in 2016.
Severna Park defeated Montgomery County’s Churchill in the state final, securing the program’s first undefeated campaign since 2010 (20-0). The Falcons, ranked No. 18 nationally by Inside Lacrosse, have won 37 consecutive games since last spring.
Earl, who was assisted by Walt Dearborn, Jake Derlink, Willie Downs, Todd Wolffrum and Alex Hutchison, spent two seasons as men’s coach at Anne Arundel Community College where he was National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Coach of the Year in 2014. The Salisbury University graduate and former junior varsity coach and varsity assistant under Matt Hogan at St. Mary, is 47-8 in three seasons at Severna Park.
