Looking to lock down a home game in the opening round of the MIAA A Conference lacrosse playoffs, which get underway next Friday, the Loyola lacrosse team accomplished its mission, Friday, defeating Mount St. Joseph, 13-8, in Irvington.

Leading 4-3, Loyola (7-7, 5-3 MIAA A) outscored St. Joe 7-2 in the second quarter to take an 11-5 lead into the half and the Dons cruised from there.

Alex Reid paced Loyola with a hat-trick, while Phil Wies, Liam Bateman and Jack Koras scored two goals each. In addition, Gavin Dambeck had one goal and two assists.

Also scoring for Loyola were Patrick Norris, Michael Del Bene and Koby Smith. Bateman and Wies added assists and Ryan Dunn had a pair of helpers.

For St. Joe (3-9, 1-7 MIAA A), Brent McVicker and Corbett Griffin scored two goals each. In addition, Eben Ordakowski, Kyle DeCrispino and Brunner Patrick had one goal each.

Loyola is currently tied for third-place in the conference and, regardless of what happens in its regular finale on Tuesday with top-ranked Calvert Hall, the Dons can finish with no worse than the fourth seed, which will place them at home when the post-season gets underway.
