Defending MIAA C Conference basketball champion Saints Peter & Paul was knocked off by Beth Tfiloh, 63-58, Tuesday night, giving the Sabres their first league loss of the season and creating a three-way tie for first place in the league.
Junior Nick Feldman scored eight points in the first quarter as the Warriors jumped out an early lead. The advantage grew to 24-12 in the second quarter, before the Sabres closed the half on a 14-4 run to get within four at the break, at 30-26. The Sabres tied it up at 33-33 in the third, but never took the lead the rest of the way.
Beth Tfiloh went 9-for-10 from the free throw line in the closing minutes to seal the victory. Senior Justin Seidman led the Warriors with 17 and junior Kameron Glazer finished with 14. Senior Mitchell Cardin missed the game, but Feldman filled in and scored a career high 10 points.
Beth Tfiloh (6-6 overall), Saints Peter & Paul (6-8 overall) and Cristo Rey are all now 3-1 in the league, sharing the top spot.
