Cavaliers blank St. Paul’s for their first MIAA A victory

With so many powerful soccer teams at the top of the conference, those in the lower half have found wins difficult to come by in 2017. Archbishop Spalding, however, got its first conference win, Monday, blanking St. Paul’s on the road in Brooklandville.

Peter Godrick got the Cavaliers (3-7-1 overall, 1-5 MIAA A) on the board with a header off of a corner kick, 37 minutes into the first half, with an assist from Jacob Dougherty. In the second half, Alex Flores was brought down in the box and Alex McGlynn scored the PK at the 17 minute mark to complete the scoring.

Spalding outshot St. Paul’s 17-9. Goalkeepers Nick Ramirez and Kyle Edwards split time in the nets and combined for three saves in the shutout.

St. Paul’s, which downed John Carroll on Friday for its first league win, fell to 1-6 overall and 1-6 in the conference.
