Over the last few seasons, Calvert Hall football, under head coach Donald Davis, has re-established itself as a MIAA and Baltimore area power, as well as force throughout the state of Maryland. In 2013, however, the Cardinals have put together a dynamic schedule which could elevate them to an elite status on a regional and national stage.
Calvert Hall, which finished No. 3 in the final 2012 VSN Football Top 20, will play 12 games in a schedule that spans from Aug. 24 through Thanksgiving Day on Nov. 28.
For starters, the Cardinals will travel to long time WCAC rival St. John’s College in DC for a Saturday afternoon battle on Aug. 24. The following Friday, CHC will make its home debut against former Florida State champion Trinity Catholic. On Sept. 7, the Cardinals will go on the road to challenge Baltimore County power Franklin and, on Sept. 13, the Cards will return home to face Good Counsel, another WCAC power and the consensus top-ranked team in Maryland in each of the last two years.
The season continues with a home game on Sat., Sept. 21 when the Cardinals host Phelps School (DC), before the Cardinals finally open MIAA A Conference play on Sept. 28 with a Friday night home game with league newcomer St. Frances.
St. Frances is the first of five straight league battles, as Calvert Hall visits McDonogh (Oct. 5) and Gilman (Oct. 25), and hosts Mount St. Joseph (Oct. 18) and Archbishop Spalding (Nov. 8).
On Nov. 15, Calvert Hall will play its final home game when it hosts home school power Eastern Christian Academy and, of course, the Cardinals will close their season on Thanksgiving morning, at Towson University, with its annual Turkey Bowl battle with arch-rival Loyola.
