Trailing by two at the half, Crusaders push in front in the third
Down 5-3 at the half, St. Paul’s rallied on its home turf in Brooklandville, Tuesday, to claim a 9-8 MIAA A Conference lacrosse victory over Severn, delivering the first league win for new head coach Trey Whitty.
Milo Moose pulled the Crusaders within one with a goal early in the third quarter and Andrew Milani scored back-to-back goals to give St. Paul’s its first lead of the afternoon, at 6-5.
Severn got one back to tie the contest, but goals from Spencer Hall and Cole Ament send the Crusaders into the final quarter with an 8-6 advantage. The lead shrunk to just one goal again, but Troy Barthleme scored what would prove to be the game-winner to give the Crusaders a 9-7 lead, before Severn scored the final goal of the afternoon.
Jake Lilly had three goals and one assist to lead Severn, while Jon Jarosz had two goals. Henry Rentz added a goal and two assists for the Admirals, Kain Domenech had one goal and one assist and Colin Ervin scored a goal.
St. Paul’s (4-4 overall) is now 1-1 in league play. Severn (5-3 overall) is 2-2 in the MIAA A.
