Eagles rally for a wild 25-15 win over Key School; C Conference seeds now set; Playoff bracket here
In a game that resembled a slow-pitch softball slugfest, the Indian Creek baseball team rallied for a wild 25-15 victory over Key School, Wednesday afternoon, locking up the sixth and final spot in next week’s MIAA C Conference Tournament, for the Eagles.

Indian Creek (6-9), which will host St. John’s Catholic Prep (14-1) in the final regular season game on Thursday, will be the sixth-seed in the single-elimination playoffs and will play third-seeded Saints Peter & Paul (12-4) in Easton on Monday. SJCP has already locked up the top seed and will have a first round bye in the tournament. The Vikings will begin their quest for a fourth straight league title on Tuesday at home, against the winner of Monday’s game between fourth-seeded Concordia Prep (8-9) and fifth-seeded Chapelgate Christian (7-9).

Gerstell Academy (14-2), the second seed, also has first round bye. The Falcons will play the Indian Creek/Saints Peter & Paul winner on Tuesday in Carroll County. The MIAA C Conference championship game will be Thursday, May 18 at St. Paul's School in Brooklandville.

In its clincher, Indian Creek fell behind 12-5 after three innings, but the Eagles rallied with a 13 runs in the fourth inning to come from behind.

The Creek also took an early with two runs in the first inning, but starting pitcher Garrett Odell struggled to get the ball consistently over the plate while his teammates struggled to make easy outs, as the Obezags took an 8-2 lead after one inning.  Both teams were scoreless in the second inning, while the Eagles got three runs back in the top of the third, only to give up four runs to Key in the bottom of the third.

Patience at the plate led to multiple walks, in the decisive fourth inning, and some clutch hits were scattered in as Indian Creek began to feast on the Key pitching, building an 18-12 advantage.  The Eagles continued to score runs every inning thereafter as the lead ebbed and flowed but never fell below five runs, before a four-run 7th-inning put the game out of reach for good.

Parker Harris came in during the third inning to pitch 5 innings and earned the win for the Eagles.  Alex Petrocelli had a double and five RBI’s. Maurice Elder was close behind with four RBI’s, and every Eagle starter had at least one RBI.  John Warner drew five walks in his seven plate appearances and scored five runs.

With a win over SJCP, Indian Creek could actually tie for fifth with Chapelgate, but the Yellow Jackets swept the season series and thus have locked up the fifth seed. Likewise, a loss by SJCP would create a tie with Gerstell for the top-spot, but the Vikings hold the tie-break because of two wins over third-place Saints Peter & Paul, with whom the Falcons split.
