St. Mary’s pulls away from No. 8 Gilman
No. 7 St. Mary’s overcame an early deficit to and pulled away in the second half from No. 8 Gilman School for an 11-5 MIAA A Conference lacrosse victory in Roland Park Tuesday, which could pave the way back to the league playoffs for the Saints.
Ian Krampf scored four goals and had an assist for St. Mary’s (12-5 overall) which scored two times in the second quarter to turn a 3-2 deficit into a 4-3 halftime lead. The Saints then outscored the Greyhounds 7-2 in the second half to secure the victory.
The result leaves the teams tied for sixth-place in the A Conference at 3-4 with two games to play. It also gives the Saints the all important head-to-head tiebreaker over Gilman should they end the season tied for the sixth and final playoff spot.
Taylor Bohanan had a goal and four assists for St. Mary’s and Garrett Nilsen had two goals and one assist. Alex Wicks, Jimmy Hayburn, Ben Lamon and Caine Wooldridge had one goal each, while Lachlan Hertel had an assist. In addition, Alex Ulrich won of 12-of-18 face-offs, including 8-of-9 in the second half.
Jordan Yaffe paced Gilman (8-6) with two goals and an assist.
St. Mary’s has the easier schedule down the stretch. The Saints host Severn School (1-6 MIAA A) on Thursday at Pascal Field in Annapolis and travel to Mount St. Joseph (1-6 MIAA A) next Tuesday. Gilman hosts No. 2 Boys’ Latin School on Friday before traveling to No. 3 and defending league champ McDonogh School next Tuesday.
