In a game where neither team led by more than two goals at any point, Archbishop Curley held off host Saints Peter & Paul for a 10-9 MIAA B Conference lacrosse quarterfinal victory, Friday in Easton.

Senior Anthony Scarpola scored 4 goals to pace the Friars and David Bell had a hat-trick. Rod Petit had a goal and an assist, while Jalen Lomax and and Brandon Smith scored once each. In addition, Noah Kellner had 2 assists and Carlos Artson had one.

Cole Butchsky, Trevor Brown, Cam Glenn and EJ Adjaye anchored the Curley defense in the second half and sophomore goalkeeper Alex Scholz stopped 11 shots.

Saints Peter & Paul’s Nate Schaffer led all scorers with 5 goals, while Luke Harrington and Will Lipscomb each scored twice.

Curley (6-10) now advances to a semifinal meeting with top-seeded John Carroll on Tuesday evening in Bel Air. The Patriots defeated the Friars in last year’s championship game.

In Friday’s other B Conference quarterfinal, 3rd-seeded Friends eliminated Park School with a 13-5 victory. The Quakers will also play a semifinal contest on Tuesday as they travel to Ellicott City to face 2nd-seeded Glenelg Country.
