The proverbial cup will runneth over for Baltimore high school basketball fans this weekend.

The 21st annual Basketball Academy tips off Thursday at Morgan State University, featuring several VSN Top 20 boys’ and girls’ programs. Defending MIAA A champ and No. 15 St. Frances Academy takes on reigning Baltimore City Division I champ and eight-ranked Poly to cap off Thursday’s opening day.

Friday’s showcase match will have No. 4 Perry Hall, which reached the Class 4A state semifinals last season against second-ranked and perennial city powerhouse Lake Clifton. On the girls’ side, No. 14 Poly and 19th-ranked Milford Mill Academy renew their city/county rivalry Saturday.

No. 2 Dunbar boys, No. 9 Woodlawn, defending Class 2A state champ New Town, Friends School and Randallstown will also be in action at Hill Field House along City College, Mount Carmel and New Town on the girls’ side.

Chicago boys’ powerhouse Simeon will be in Charm City to take on Poly in the Charm City vs. Windy City Shootout at Poly. Simeon, ranked No. 9 in USA Today’s Super 25, is the alma-mater of former NBA MVP and current New York Knick Derrick Rose and Milwaukee Bucks forward Jabari Parker. Morgan Park, the 5th-ranked team in the Windy City area by the Chicago Tribune, takes on St. Frances.

The Panthers also have a MIAA A final rematch at top-ranked Mount St. Joseph Friday night at The Smith Center in Irvington. Sunday, the Gaels travel to Bel Air for a Baltimore Catholic League final rematch with No. 7 John Carroll School.

In Anne Arundel County, No. 16 Old Mill visits 10th-ranked Glen Burnie Friday evening in a showdown of unbeatens.
